Americans are looking for someone who can address the problems straight with no spin and who puts America first and its enemies last. Some claim Mr. Trump will embarrass America with his outspoken rhetoric. Or that because he has never held public office, Mr. Trump will destroy America’s democratic system.
The United States Constitution’s checks and balances will prevent that if members of both houses of Congress follow their oath to protect the Constitution. Unfortunately, they have been derelict in upholding the Constitution for almost eight years.
Mr. Trump appeared uneasy at the first Republican debate on Thursday, August 6. People must remember, except for Dr. Ben Carson, the other nine people are professional politicians who know how to give boilerplate answers and leaving out any specifics. However, kudos to Mr. Trump for saying aloud what other people are thinking but afraid to express their opinion in public for fear of being called a racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. Because of the asinine “political correctness,” the people do not communicate with one another and remain silent and frustrated.
Republican pundits are worrying that Trump’s rhetoric will alienate voters and hurt the eventual “establishment” candidate, giving the presidential election to the Democrats. Maybe so.
It was the party leaders and Sen. John McCain who gave the Democrats the election in 2008 when they put a leash and a muzzle on Gov. Sarah Palin who motivated the conservative base and made McCain, the establishment candidate, look wimpish.
Mr. Trump was severely criticized previously because he said Sen. McCain was not a war hero, or was one only because he was captured. I was a proud member of the United States Army and a hero is a soldier who risks his own life to save his buddies or perform heroic deeds, akin to Achilles in the Trojan War.
If being captured makes you a hero, why weren’t the militiamen captured and imprisoned in British prison ships where many died called heroes during the War for Independence? What about the American soldiers captured on Corregador who were in the Bataan Death March or forced to work as slave labor in Japan; and others captured in America’s other wars. Using the McCain criterion of heroism, why are these thousands not honored as heroes?
Difference is, Sen. McCain is part of America’s ruling class and these captured soldiers were not. Mr. Trump has shown he can reach a percentage of black and Hispanic voters and they will vote Republican in the privacy of the voting booth.
The perfect vice president for Mr. Trump, if she would accept, is Gov. Sarah Palin for several reasons. A staunch and unwavering conservative; knows how to energize a crowd; is pro-life; has a pro-jobs agenda; and puts America first. Mrs. Palin is a quick study and I don’t believe Mr. Trump will muzzle her to protect his image or ego. They would be an unbeatable team.
Will the Republican leadership embrace a Trump/Palin ticket or fight it? Give the Trump/Palin ticket a chance. The 2016 presidential election is crucial and whoever wins will set America’s direction for the next two decades. It’s their call.
